Prepare and Bake the Brownies
Preheat the oven according to the brownie box instructions. Line an 8x8 square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the sides for easy removal later. Mix the brownie batter according to package directions. For enhanced flavor, consider substituting the water with ¼ cup Baileys Irish Cream. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake according to package instructions. Allow the brownies to cool completely before adding the buttercream layer.
Make the Baileys Buttercream
In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, vanilla extract, and sifted powdered sugar until well combined. With the mixer running at low speed, pour in the Baileys Irish Cream. Gradually add the heavy whipping cream, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat until the frosting becomes light, fluffy, and smooth. The consistency should be spreadable but firm enough to hold its shape.
Apply the Buttercream Layer
Once the brownies have completely cooled, use an offset spatula to spread the Baileys buttercream evenly across the top surface. Ensure the layer is uniform in thickness. Place the frosted brownies in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes to set the buttercream while you prepare the ganache topping.
Prepare the Chocolate Ganache
In a heatproof bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream and Baileys Irish Cream. Microwave for 45-60 seconds until the mixture just begins to simmer. Do not allow it to boil. Place the chocolate chips in a separate bowl and pour the hot cream mixture over them. Let this sit undisturbed for 3-4 minutes to allow the chocolate to melt. Then, stir gently until a smooth, glossy ganache forms.
Finish the Brownies
Remove the brownies from the freezer and immediately pour the ganache over the buttercream layer. Use a spatula to spread the ganache evenly across the surface. Allow the ganache to set either at room temperature for 45-60 minutes or in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes. Once set, lift the brownies from the pan using the parchment paper overhang, cut into squares, and serve.
