Ingredients
  

For the Ground Beef:
  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 for optimal flavor
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger minced
  • 2 green onions chopped (plus extra for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the Rice:
  • 2 cups cooked rice jasmine, basmati, or brown rice
Optional Toppings:
  • Sesame seeds
  • Sliced cucumber
  • Kimchi
  • Pickled vegetables
Optional Add-Ins:
  • Vegetables: bell peppers carrots, broccoli, or spinach
  • Egg: a fried egg on top for added richness

Method
 

  1. 1. Prepare the Rice
Stove Method:
  1. Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Combine with 2 cups of water in a pot. Bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes until water is absorbed.
  4. Remove from heat and let it sit for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
Rice Cooker Method:
  1. Add rinsed rice and water to your rice cooker.
  2. Close the lid and let it cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Instant Pot Method:
  1. Combine rinsed rice and water in the pot.
  2. Seal the lid and cook on high pressure for 3 minutes.
  3. Allow a natural release before fluffing.
2. Cook the Ground Beef
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground beef and break it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
  3. Brown the beef until it’s no longer pink (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. Add minced garlic and ginger, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  6. Stir in soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Allow it to simmer for a couple of minutes to let the flavors meld together.
3. Assemble the Bowl
  1. Spoon a generous amount of cooked rice into the bottom of a bowl.
  2. Layer the seasoned ground beef mixture on top.
  3. Add optional vegetables such as steamed broccoli or sliced bell peppers.
  4. Garnish with sesame seeds, extra green onions, and toppings like kimchi or a fried egg.
