This French Toast Bake is a heavenly breakfast treat combining rich flavors of buttery brown sugar, warm cinnamon, and soft bread. Prepared the night before, this easy recipe bakes to perfection for a delightful morning meal or brunch centerpiece.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup melted butter 1 stick
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 loaf of thickly sliced bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for sprinkling
  • Cinnamon for sprinkling

Method
 

  1. Melt butter in the microwave and stir in brown sugar until well mixed.
  2. Pour the butter and sugar mixture into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  3. In a bowl, beat together eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
  4. Lay a single layer of bread slices in the prepared pan.
  5. Spoon half of the egg mixture over the bread layer.
  6. Sprinkle cinnamon generously over the bread and egg layer.
  7. Add a second layer of sliced bread on top.
  8. Spoon the remaining egg mixture over the top layer of bread.
  9. Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to blend.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  11. Bake the French Toast Bake for 45 minutes, covering it for the first 30 minutes to avoid over-browning.
  12. Remove from the oven and sprinkle powdered sugar and additional cinnamon over the top.
  13. Serve warm with maple syrup for a truly indulgent experience.

Notes

  • Use thickly sliced bread, such as brioche or Texas toast, for the best texture.
  • For added flavor, mix a pinch of nutmeg into the egg mixture.
  • If you prefer a crunchier topping, sprinkle chopped nuts on top before baking.
